Born in 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, Lenny Mustari found interest at young age upon his many lone visits to Chicago Art Institute when growing up. His interests were immediately drawn to works by the likes of Pollock, Kline, Mitchell and Motherwell which summoned and fueled his inspiration. He is a self-taught artist who currently resides and has a studio in Naples, Florida.

As an artist I found freedom in abstract expressionism and action painting and decided to move in that direction and haven't relinquished the effort. It is always important for me to open my mind to new ideas and materials that might be available to me, and I enjoy that part of the process. I do not feel I need to understand what might ap
As an artist I found freedom in abstract expressionism and action painting and decided to move in that direction and haven't relinquished the effort. It is always important for me to open my mind to new ideas and materials that might be available to me, and I enjoy that part of the process. I do not feel I need to understand what might appeal to others expectations but have my own vision and perception of what works and will always move in that direction as a painter. Conflict and chaos seem to be an overriding theme in what I put on canvas, and I use various materials to accomplish what I aim to do. Burlap, sand, wood and other found materials to name a few will be used to accomplish a sense of that raw and crude vision I create, and hopefully gives my work purpose
